GOLF BENEFIT RAISES $34,000! On October 16, 2003, golfers from around the state converged at the beautiful River Ridge Golf Course in Raleigh, NC, for the 4th Annual Southeastern Benefit Golf Tournament. Entry to the tournament was earned by raising $1,000 in corporate sponsorships. After expenses, the college will clear over $34,000 from this year's tournament. Since beginning, this annual tournament has raised over $120,000 for the college - a wonderful amount to help further the training of our future Free Will Baptist preachers and ministry workers! Those who earned entry to this special event were treated royally from the moment they arrived at the course. Golfers enjoyed a day of luxury golf worth a retail value of over $150, including picking their choice of a new pair of leather golf shoes, a new putter, or a new driver. Each golfer also received a gift bag and a door prize, in addition to having the chance to win many other prizes including a new car, a golf vacation, a golf gift package, and $1,000,000. A total retail value of over $5,000 in prizes was given away throughout the day. Congratulations to the team of Ken Jones, Mike Allen, Warren Riley, and Johnny Floars from Goldsboro, NC, for winning this year's tournament. Pastor Jim Maddox from Kinston, NC, won the Grand Prize Giveaway - a new set of King Cobra SSI Irons. Special event winners included Donnie Gates (Closest to the Pin), Stephen Stox (Closest to the Pin), Chris Harris (Closest to the Pin), Darryl Floars (Closest to the Pin), Matthew Tilghman (Longest Putt), Jason Haas (Straightest Drive), Ken Jones (Guess the Distance), and Christian Powell (Guess the Pretzels). Five special golfers were chosen to take one shot worth $1,000,000. The fortunate 5 were Walter Sloan, Marc Holloman, Justin Harris, Sam Pike, and Mike Woodard. Anticipation built as the crowd gathered around the 18th green to watch the men take their best shot from 165 yards out. While none of them made the shot, each of them made a respectable showing, with Southeastern student Justin Harris coming the closest to the pin - a mere 8 feet to the right of the hole! Thanks to Dann Patrick, Pastor of Faith FWB Church in Goldsboro, NC, and Chairman of the Southeastern Board of Directors, for sponsoring this special event. On behalf of the college, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to each golfer for their time and effort to raise support for this tournament. In addition, Southeastern would like to thank the many businesses, churches, and individuals that gave of themselves to make this special event take place. Make plans now to be part of the 5th Annual Southeastern Benefit next October! |
