Southeastern Holds First Concert Series

Each semester, the music students at Southeastern are required to attend a symphony or music concert approved by the faculty. It has been increasingly difficult to find quality performances which do not violate the standards of the college. It is because of this we welcomed Mrs. Gail Smith of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to our campus on January 27th for our first concert series.

Mrs. Smith, composer, pianist portrayed Fanny Mendelssohn in the first half of the concert. After the intermission she played pieces giving tribute to the 250th birthday celebration of Mozart as well as some others that she arranged or composed.

Mrs. Smith is the author of fifty books she has written, arranged or compiled for Lillenas and Mel Bay Publications.  She is widely known as an outstanding educator, recording artist and concert pianist. Gail Smith has performed throughout the United States as well as in Germany and Japan.

The concert was an inspiration as well as a spiritual blessing to those who attended. Mrs. Smith also conducted a piano workshop for our students and outside guests earlier that afternoon.
